Community Living Magazine

The Elfrida Society is a devoted supporter and sponsor of the Community Living Magazine, and we are a member of the editorial advisory board.

Community Living is an independent, quarterly magazine that supports inclusion, promotes equality and challenges assumptions about learning disability. Their editorial ethos is driven by their belief in the right for people to thrive in their communities.

Launched as a campaigning magazine 35 years ago, Community Living is published by the charity CL Initiatives and supported by a board of trustees.

The Elfrida Society became its publisher in the early 2000s before independent publisher and campaigner Rose Trustam took on the role.

Today, thanks to the backing of sponsors, supporters and subscribers, the magazine champions good practice while also reporting on the challenges that undermine people's ability to live well in their communities. Lead by their award-winning editor freelance journalist and author Saba Salman.

The Elfrida Society was delighted to have been presented with the award: Group of the Year Award 2024, sponsored by our valued partner SportWorks.

The nation will be able to witness our award winner sport initiatives champions and representatives: Sarah, Raymond and Baron proud moment when the Sport Gives Back Awards are broadcast on ITV on Sunday, 24th March 2024.

SportWorks is just one of eight charities which will be seen handing out awards on the programme, alongside Dallaglio RugbyWorks, Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, Greenhouse Sports, Invictus Games, Lord's Taverners, Sported and Youth Sport Trust.

The show is hosted by Jeanette Kwakye and Josh Denzel, with comedy from Britain's Got Talent finalist Daliso Chaponda.

Sponsored by The Co-operative Bank, the Sport Gives Back Awards is the brainchild of former international athlete Connie Henry MBE. She said: "Sport changed my life as a teenager. It gave me the stability, focus and opportunity I wouldn't otherwise have had. When I retired from athletics, I set up Track Academy, a charity which supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in north London, where I grew up myself. Over the last 15 years, we have helped hundreds of students to succeed both on and off the track."

She added: "Back in 2019, I realised that there was no platform where charities and organisations like ours could shout about the amazing work we do through sport. As a result, I decided to set up Sport Gives Back to celebrate those who use sport for social change."
