Relationships in the lives
of people with learning difficulties

The most important aspect of living in the community is the relationship
we make with friends, partners, and family. For people with learning difficulties
there are the additional relationships with the people who are paid to
support them.
For too many people these are the only relationships they have. For others,
their early lives may have contained abusive relationships which have
left deep scars. Research after research report confirms that services
are still failing people with learning difficulties in this most critical
area.
Relationships brings together four lectures given at the Elfrida Society
on this topic; Valerie Sinason on Abuse and Disability, Alison Wertheimer
on Attachment and Loss, Hilary Brown on Protection in Relationships and
David Brandon on the Trick of Being Ordinary.
Edited and Introduced by Christina Schwabenland these lectures are aimed
at practitioners working directly with people with learning difficulties.
