The Supported Housing project is 2 large houses located
in Finsbury Park. The
project is suitable for people with moderate learning difficulties who
can do a lot of things for themselves but who still need some help.
What are the 2 houses like?
One house has 6 bedsits for adults with moderate learning difficulties
and has a shared living room, kitchen and bathrooms. The bedsits have
furniture, cookers and fridges etc in them ('furnished'). This house has
2 support tenants.
The other has 4 flats for adults with moderate learning difficulties.
The flats do not have furniture in them ('unfurnished'). This house has
1 support tenant.
What are support tenants?
Support Tenants are people who do not have learning difficulties who live
in the house. They have their own bedsit or flat, and provide some support.
For example, they can be called on in an emergency.
They are intended to help people learn about being a successful tenant.
Tenants are very involved in the running of each house; it's their home!
How is the project managed?
The Supported Housing Manager is the main member of staff at the project.
Some of the things she/he does are:
- encourage tenants to be
involved in the running of the house, (including consulting with them
on any changes)
- help people get ready
to move on to their own flat
- help them get support
from elsewhere such as Employment Advice, Benefits Advice, Social Worker/Care
Manager, Psychologist or Psychiatrist etc.
- manages the support tenants
